In 1995 state funding for the Minnesota Main Street Program ended. The six active Main Street communities were determined to continue the benefits of the Main Street program. Biko Associates helped the communities establish a non-profit organization, Hometown Minnesota, Inc., to continue their network. Hometown, Minnesota's Board of Directors includes economic development directors, Main Street Program directors, Chamber of Commerce staff, and planning and design proffessionals. Biko Associates serves as staff for the organization. Since 1995, communities from across Minnesota have attended Hometown workshops and presentations.
Hometown endorses the National Main Street Center four-point approach to downtown revitalization. The four point approach is outlined below:
Biko Associates coordinates strategic planning and technical assistance for member communities. Technical services provided include market analysis, design assistance, transportation analysis, documenting demographic trends, and developing strategies for meeting local, county, and state environmental goals.
